Maria Bello may play a tough detective on NBC’s new show, Prime Suspect, but on Tuesday, she put that aside when she officially became involved in a Haiti advisory panel to help the poverty-stricken country recover from the 2010 earthquake.

Hollywood.com reports that Bello has her own We Advance organization, which directly targets victims of the earthquake.

According to their web page, the organization “...is a movement to advance the health, safety, and well being of women throughout Haiti.”

Bello, who worked in Haiti before the earthquake with various aid groups, will join 30 other members of the advisory panel, which includes worldwide leaders like former U.S. President Bill Clinton and Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus. An advisor to Haitian President Michel Martelly is also on the panel, according to The Associated Press.

Bello is best known for her work on television in ER and in the films Thank You For Smoking and A History of Violence. Her new show, Prime Suspect starts on NBC on Sept. 22 at 9:00 p.m.
