A misdiagnosis and a prescription of Adderall may have caused Lindsay Lohan's recent troubles

As TMZ recently reported, both a misdiagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and a prescription of Adderall may have been the reason for 24-year-old actress Lindsay Lohan's recent troubles.

Dr. Joe Harastzi, a prominent L.A. addiction specialist, told TMZ that people who take Adderall without needing to can experience effects similar to those caused by cocaine or methamphetamine.

Harastzi also says that those who take Adderall unnecessarily can begin to exhibit manic symptoms, and do things like "driving around until all hours of the morning, smoking heavily, tweeting and texting all night long." He says they can become "very impulsive," and "might then complain of insomnia and then take Ambien and other sleep aids to help fall asleep in a vicious cycle."

According to another addiction expert, Dr, Marc Kern, alcohol abuse is also common in patients who take Adderall. He says, "The Adderall counteracts the sedative side effects of alcohol use ... making these people often drink more than someone who does not take the drug."
