After 10 Years Jane Magazine Goes Under

Jane magazine folds after 10 years.

Jane magazine is ending its 10 year run in August because of its poor advertising sales.

The magazine spoke frankly on issues that some others shied away from, such as sex. After the magazine Sassy folded in 1994 there was a hole left in the market for a similar magazine, Jane filled that void. Jane Pratt, editor of Sassy, created Jane and left in 2005.

The magazine began to be more focused on celebrities and actually employed celebrity editors. One such editor was Pam Anderson, she wrote a column for the publication. The magazine, published by Conde Nast, was aimed at a 19-34 demographic. "We worked diligently to make Jane a success. However, we have come to believe that the magazine and Web site will not fulfill our long-term business expectations," Conde Nast Publications Chief Executive Charles Townsend said in a statement. Jane's last issue will hit the stands in August.
