Ain't No Room For Two Queens Of Soul

Aretha upset that Beyonce gave title of "Queen of Soul" to Tina Turner.

Aretha Franklin, usually considered the Queen of Soul, is apparently very protective of this title. The singer was upset after this year's Grammy Awards at which her royal pop successor Beyonce Knowles, the new Queen in music, reserved the title for Tina Turner. "Give it up for the queen!" she exclaimed before she and Turner performed a spectacular "Proud Mary."

"I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised," Franklin said in USA Today. The singer performed at the Grammy Awards this year and believed the statement was "a cheap shot for controversy."

Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich said he was surprised because Beyonce supposedly idolizes Franklin. "It was an innocent remark," he said. "It certainly wasn't meant to disparage Aretha."

Beyonce's father and manager refused to get a comment from his daughter, believing that Aretha's reaction was "childish" and "unprofessional."

Obviously, when you throw around words like King or Queen, egos may be bruised. But it does not seem like Aretha plans to pursue the subject any further. "Love to Beyonce anyway," she said.
