Al Gore III's Inconvenient Truth

The former Vice President's son is arrested for marijuana.

Al Gore's 24-year-old son Albert was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of illegally possessing marijuana and prescription drugs.

Al Gore III was initially pulled over for speeding, driving about 100 mph on the San Diego freeway. In his car officers found marijuana, Xanax, Valium, Vicodin, and Adderall none of which he had a prescription for. He was released from jail on $20,000 bail.

On Thursday, the former vice president told NBC's "Today" show that he is glad his son is receiving treatment a day after the arrest. "We love him very much," said Gore. "We are going to leave it as a private matter."

The arrest overshadowed the older Gore's work on the Live Earth concerts. He planned the worldwide event to raise awareness about the environment and to fund his nonprofit organization, Alliance for Climate Protection.

This isn't the first time young Gore has gotten in trouble for marijuana. He was previously arrested for possession in December 2003, and he completed substance abuse counseling.
