Al Gore's Nobel Prize Winnings to be Donated
On Friday, Al Gore was overcome with joy to learn that he and the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) had been jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Gore vowed to use "the honor and recognition of this award as a way of speeding up the change in awareness" about the increasing climate crisis.
Upon receiving the award, the former vice president announced that the winnings from it ($750,000) would be donated to the Alliance for Climate Protection. This non profit organization founded by Gore, works with environmental groups and pushes to educate the public about the effects of global warming. Through concerts and campaigns, the Alliance has publicized the effects of global warming and has helped turn citizens into activists.
Past events have included a "60 seconds to Save the Earth" contest in which people were invited to submit short videos on taking environmental action. In the future, the organization is hoping to unveil a multi million dollar campaign, promoting their cause. Gore will collect his prize in Oslo, Norway, on December 10th.
