Alexander Makes Sorrowful Start With Number 6
Despite Wednesday releases of holiday flicks like "Christmas with the Kranks" and the much-hyped epic "Alexander," the Nicholas Cage treasure hunting film "National Treasure" claimed the top spot for the second week in a row. Raking in another $46.2 million this weekend, "Treasure" beat out box office veteran "The Incredibles," which moved up a notch in the rankings this week with $33.2 million in ticket sales. Falling behind that was the zany Tim Allen Christmas film "Christmas with the Kranks," which stood tall with $32 million. Rounding out the top 5 were "The Polar Express," with $27.1 million, and "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie," with $23.4 million in its second week. Falling well below expectations was "Alexander," directed by Oliver Stone and starring Colin Farrell, Angelina Jolie, and Anthony Hopkins. Even such a star studded cast and crew couldn't save this historical drama from debuting at number 6 with $21.6 million.
