Alfonso Ribeiro and Lucy Lawless join others on "Celebrity Duets"

The star contestants will compete by pairing up with music legends.

Carlton Banks will soon be able to put his Tom Jones impressions to good use.

Alfonso Ribeiro, who co-starred on the 1990s sitcom "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," is among the famous contestants announced to appear on Fox's new competition show "Celebrity Duets."

The show, which features public figures not known for their singing talents joining forces with musical powerhouses, is the latest creation of "American Idol" mastermind and judge Simon Cowell.

Lucy Lawless, Chris Jericho, Cheech Marin, Lea Thompson, Carly Patterson, Jai Rodriguez and Hal Sparks are also slated to compete.

"I can't tell you what they're going to do under pressure, but as a public service, I make you a solid commitment that we will do everything humanly possible to present high-quality singers in the competition because I think that's where the 'wow' factor is going to come in," said Peter Liguori, head of entertainment at Fox.

Contestants will be voted off each week in "Idol" fashion, after they perform songs with musicians including Patti LaBelle, Aaron Neville and Michael Bolton. The winner will receive $100,000 to donate to the charity of his or her choosing.

"Celebrity Duets" premieres Aug. 29 at 8 p.m.
