Alice Cooper builds teen center

The shock rocker plans to start a center that teaches kids the importance of boundaries.

Musician Alice Cooper wants to teach kids that living with boundaries is better than a carefree, rock 'n' roll lifestyle.

Cooper's Solid Rock Foundation is building a 20,000-square-foot teen center called The Rock, which he hopes will give young people some structure.

"Kids love boundaries," Cooper says. "We used to fight against them. But in all reality, what we really did want was to know where we could go. Of course, you always step over the line just a little bit to see what's going to happen."

The Christian-based center will be built at Phoenix's Grand Canyon University, which has a Biblical focus.

"We're not going to beat them over the head with a Bible," the rocker says. "But we're certainly going to be available to tell them that that's available to them."

Among the features of the center are a recording studio, a rock-climbing wall and a coffeehouse. Construction on the center will begin next year.
