Alicia Keys Performs At World AIDS Day Benefit Concert
At the Nokia Theatre in Times Square on Tuesday Alicia Keys performed a special concert to support the millions of people affected by HIV and AIDS. Proceeds from her concert will go to Keys' Keep A Child Alive foundation.
Keys performed some of her older songs, as well as many songs from her new album, and Jay-Z showed up to help her perform her final song. Between belting out her hits, Keys took time to talk with the audience about the important of recognizing World AIDS Day.
About halfway through the show Keys announced a contestshe will be inviting five people to go with her on her next trip to Africa. She traveled there in 2002 and it impacted her life greatly, and she wants to be able to share that experience with others. To enter the contest, audience members could text a number and donate five dollars to her Keep A Child Alive foundation. Fans can enter online for the contest also.
Keys played an hour long set, closing with "Empire State of Mind, Part 2," with Jay-Z appearing on stage with her. Even after the song finished, the audience continued to chant "New York," showing their support for Keys and for the city.
American Express sponsored Keys benefit concert, and it sold out in minutes. However, those fans that were unable to get tickets were able to watch the event on Keys' official YouTube channel.
