Alicia Keys Says Magazine Story Twisted Her Words
According to the Associated Press, Alicia Keys has issued a public statement clarifying some misunderstood comments she made which were printed in a magazine article.
The May issue of Blender magazine featured an article which portrays Keys as a political conspiracy theorist. The author of the article quotes Keys to say, "'Gangsta rap' was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other."
When asked why she wears a gold AK-47 pendant necklace, the magazine claims Keys responded by saying, "to symbolize strength, power and killing 'em dead."
The 27-year-old singer released a statement issued by J Records and clarified the controversial comments.
"My comments about 'gangsta rap' were in no way trying to suggest that the government is responsible for creating this genre of rap music," Keys said.
The gold necklace with an AK-47 pendant is "an acronym for Alicia Keys and a metaphor for wowing people with my music and performances, 'killing 'em dead' on stage," Keys added.
