Alien Admiral Replacing Colonel Mascot?

Why would you have a southern colonel for a mascot, when you could have an alien admiral? Recently, the University of Mississippi has retired its old mascot and is looking for a new one. The heavy and odd favorite is the Mon Calamari Admiral Ackbar, the Star Wars Rebel commander.

The student body of Ole Miss voted on Tuesday to adopt a new mascot and replace their old one Colonel Reb. The Colonel looks like a mix of Yosemite-Sam and the KFC Colonel and has been with the athletics division of the school since 1938. With the votes in, 74.6 percent of the ballots said that he needs to be replaced.

As a result, some of the students have nominated well known Star Wars character Admiral Ackbar as the new mascot, leading the Rebels of Ole Miss as he did the Rebel Alliance.

While officials say there is no chance of this happening, the Admiral has still gathered quite a following thanks to various web sites.

This will most likely end as a funny story, a lawsuit by Lucas Films, or the Admiral actually becoming the mascot. No matter what happens, it going to be interesting for the students at Ole Miss.
