Amazon to Offer Film and TV Service
The latest player to eye the field of online TV and film distribution is Amazon, Inc. The company is working on an online subscription service for TV and films. With this new service, Amazon will go head to head with Netflix, Google, and Apple to dominate the digital delivery of TV shows and Films.
The online retailer is in talks with several major media companies, including General Electric Co.'s NBC Universal, Time Warner Inc., News Corp. and Viacom Inc.
The online retailer intends to take a similar approach as Netflix by offering older catalog content. Media executives might be more receptive to this approach, since they feel that making older content available on the web is less threatening to their current business model.
Amazon’s subscription service would be available through web browser, and other Internet-connected devices such as TVs, Blu-ray players, and Xbox 360 video game consoles.
Amazon hopes to launch the new service in time for the holiday season.
