'American Idiot' Coming Soon to Broadway

Though there has been some speculation over whether American Idiot would actually make it to Broadway, it seems as though this is about to become a reality. The show, which is based on an album of the same title by Green Day, enjoyed success in its run in California in late 2009.

The show is slated to open at the St. James Theater on April 20 with some previews starting in early spring.

Though opinions vary regarding how well it will do when put up against more traditional musicals, its early success and the success of the band offers hope in its ability to attract an audience. In addition, it is directed by Michael Mayer who recently won a Tony for Spring Awakening.

To add to the appeal for Green Day fans, the band contributed to the development of the musical and some of the album's songs will be incorporated as well.
