American Idol Comeback Short Lived For Nikko Smith

Hey kids, the American Idol update is back!!!

Nikko Smith was the next hopeful on the American Idol chopping block Wednesday. His performance of "One Hand, One Heart" failed to make an impression on not only Randy and Simon, but viewers as well.

The 22-year-old Missouri native got his nickname "the comeback kid" after being called back to the show to replace Mario Vasquez, who made the final round of competition but later dropped out.

Smith, who charmed fans with his big smile and sleek R&B style had been struggling recently according to Simon, although he managed to deliver a fantastic performance of "Can We Talk" last week.

The surprise of the night came when Vonzell Solomon was announced in the bottom three. The budding diva gave a stunning performance of Barbra Streisands' "People," a performance which judge Paula Abdul said Babs herself couldn't have topped. Rounding out the bottom three was Scott Savol, who has recently been the subject of controversy after his prior arrests became public knowledge.

Reigning idol Fantasia kicked off the results show with a medley of her current hits "Truth Is" and "I Believe." After an emotional and high energy performance, she gave current idol hopefuls a bit of advice.

"Get out here and act ugly," Fantasia said. "Just have a good time."
