American Idol Kicks off in Beantown

American Idol auditions start today at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA.

Can you believe it? It's been 3 weeks since Kris Allen was named the new American Idol and Bostonian hopefuls will be praying not to get shot down by Simon Cowell today when they audition at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA.

Registration began on Friday where contestants were given wristbands and asked to return today, at the crack of dawn for the auditions. According to the Associated Press, not only do you have to have courage, talent and thick skin, you also have to be eligible to work in the United States and be between the ages of 16 and 28.

Boston's been doing really well," said Patrick Lynn, coordinating producer of American Idol." I didn't expect this many people in the rain. But I'm totally happy, and the quality of talent that's coming through is great." Could the new "American Idol" be discovered today? Gillette Stadium is home of the New England Patriots, who have brought home numerous NFL Championship titles.

For all the talented singers out there who are not Bostonians, "American Idol" will be traveling to Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Orlando and Denver as well over the next couple of weeks.

The new season will premiere in January of 2010.
