'American Idol' Recap: 'Top Five Results Show'
Early on Wednesday night's American Idol, Lee DeWyze was sent to safety. The rocker contestant had had much praise from the judges on Tuesday night. The rest of the final five had to wait a bit longer.
Ryan Seacrest split the remaining contestants into two groups. Crystal Bowersox and Casey James were in a group while Michael Lynch and Aaron Kelly were in another group. Ryan turns to Lee who is sitting in safety and we know that he wants to ask Lee to pick which group he thinks is safe.
Lee drops his head and nods. Thankfully, Ryan merely asks him if he would pick the safe group, if asked. Lee responds with a simple no.
Ryan then announces Big Mike and Aaron to be in the bottom two. After a criticized performance, James was surprisingly not in the bottom two.
After 32 million votes, Aaron is sent home. Michael and Aaron share a long hug, while Michael offers some encouraging words to him.
Guest performances of the night included Lady Gaga. She performed a mix of "Bad Romance" and her new song "Alejandro." Gaga played the piano and was covered head-to-toe in fishnets. There was also a flaming angel on stage.
Prior to Harry Connick Jr.'s peformance, there was a hilarious clip of Harry interacting with the contestants. He talked about working on "colors and shapes" with Aaron when he didn't understand something and he stuck his foot in his mouth when he mistook Crystal's insulin pump as a cellphone or pager.
Harry sang the Beatles song, "And I Love Her," from his latest album. His singing was terrific, sounding very smooth.
Coming up next week are movies as the top four contestants sing songs of the cinema. Jamie Foxx will be the mentor.
