American Idol Update

Down to the final two tonight.

It is down to Kris, Danny and Adam on TV's most popular show, American Idol, and tonight one of them will be going home. This is the eighth season of American Idol and last night, according to Entertainment Weekly, it was the most aggressive episode to date. Kris Allen's second number, which was a remake of Kanye West's song, "Heartless," was an original coffeehouse version of the hip-hop song – and it worked. It seems that Allen is best fit with an acoustic guitar and voice, stripped down from the big band glitter of most American Idol performances. According to People magazine and mtv.com, this performance gave him the redemption he needed. Allen was not the only one stunning the judges however. Adam Lambert hit two homeruns singing Simon Cowell's pick of "One," by U2, and Adam's own choice of "Crying," by Aerosmith; both of these songs portrayed his vocal range and stage presence as well as his stylized rise and climax of singing songs. Danny Gokey displayed confident singing but his tone seemed to be stuck in his natural awkward state. He sang Terence Trent D'Arby's "Dance Little Sister," selected by Paula Abdul, which didn't feel modern or original, and Joe Cocker's "You Are So Beautiful," which was good but lacked the power of, say, Adam Lambert's ownership of a song. After tonight, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert should be holding the top two spots, with Danny Gokey voted out, leaving more room for Adam Lambert to steal the crown and become America's Idol.
