American Idol Will Return in January

American Idol will begin its ninth year on television on January 12.

American Idol has turned out some controversy-creating singers, but the show must go on.

The audience magnet singing competition will return for it's ninth year in January. On Tuesday, Fox announced that there will be a two-night premiere in 2010 on Tuesday, January 12 and Wednesday, January 13.

For the upcoming season, viewers will no longer get laughs from Paula and Simon's bickering. Longtime judge Paula Abdul is out, and comedic talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres is in.

Fox also made announcements about their other hits.

"24" will also have a two-episode premiere. Two-hour episodes will air on January 17 and 18.

After the December 9 episode, "Glee" will be off air until April 13, at which point it will follow "Idol."

Until "Glee" returns, a new series "Our Little Genius," which tests the knowledge of gifted children," will take the spot after "Idol."
