'America's Got Talent': Week 5, Part 2
Tuesday's "America's Got Talent" welcomed auditions from contestants who signed up on MySpace.
The first contestant, "El Vegas," arrived on the stage dressed like Elvis Presley. The audience was not impressed by his singing to a patriotic performance with two backup singers.
A group called The Jumping Eagles repeatedly made mistakes with jump-rope tricks, while Shaun Berkey's singing voice did not "wow" the audience. Ashley Groff, 18, who claims to have a fan page on MySpace, shocked the audience with her singing-and-screaming combination. "For the first time on this show ever, I was genuinely scared," judge Piers Morgan said.
The long-awaited glimpse of talent finally arrived when Ishaara, a group of college students, performed a Bollywood performance to the song, "Jai Ho." More promising contestants followed, such as a two-man circus act and a two-man acrobatic act. "You're the strongest guys in spandex I've ever seen," host Nick Cannon told the latter duo.
"MySpace is delivering the weird, the wacky [and] the wonderful," judge David Hasselhoff said.
A quartet called Marcus Terell & the Serenades sang through to the Las Vegas round, although Terell, the front man, was favored by the judges. Charles DeWayne Dorsey, 21, sang and played the keyboard to a Stevie Wonder song. The delighted judges gave him "yes" votes.
A dance crew called Encore, a stand-up comedian named Alycia Cooper, two musicians called N2UN, and a musician/singer duo named Kara and Corey Britz impressed the audience and are on their way to Las Vegas.
Closing the show, 19-year-old Heavy Vee performed a disappointing hip-hop dance. However, things became more entertaining when Cannon went on stage to be her dancing partner. "You inspired me, girl," he told Vee after the dancing duo received much applause (and a standing ovation from judge Sharon Osbourne). Thus, the day ended with a smiling audience and judges.
On Wednesday's show, the final auditions are revealed, and "Today" anchor Meredith Vieira will interview "Britain's Got Talent" finalist Susan Boyle.
