Season 15 - Episode 2
America's Next Top Model began it's first actual episode with Anamaria thinking she was awesome and none of the girls are a threat. The sisters Chris and Terra give similar sentiments. Sadly, that was a harbinger of bad news for them. Their pride was a bit too premature for the challenge. The girls arrive at Venice Beach. Harry Perry, local street performer introduces them to their house. Squealing occurs as they stare at Tyra's photos, the runway, and the indoor sand.
Chris tries her best to be nice to all the girls so she decides that Ann would be interesting to talk to. Interesting was probably the last word in Chris' dictionary as Ann described her ideal husband as a warlock, that can breathe fire and roll sushi.
The girls got their first Tyra Mail, sending them to Hollywood to meet the two Jays. They announced that the girls would walk a Diane Von Furstenburg fashion show four stories up in the air. A small twist for the girls was that they had to do their own hair and makeup. Luckily four stories up, no one noticed. Looking at the background of the shots, there were no jumbo screens for the audience to watch anyway. The girls get harnessed up and Ann was first, she struggles on the stairs and never recovers from there. Anamaria doesn't think that the other girls are competition, and after decently walking she slips right after going up the stairs. Kacey doesn't have her glasses on, and she gives the biggest "I'm gonna die" face before commercial. After the commercial, she walked fine, gave a fierce pose at the end and didn't die. The Jays were impressed, but know there is more for the contestants to learn.
A Tyra Mail hints about being made fun of. After a night of discussions the girls arrive at their first photoshoot. Jay explains the photoshoot is about teenage bullying. The girls will wear swimwear with the word that hurt them the most. Deborah Anderson was the photographer.
Tyra shows up for the photoshoot and emphasizes how important this photoshoot is for her. Esther, who picked weirdo, managed to get past her large breasts. Rhianna was called stupid, she struggled with her poses. Kacey had "Oreo," and like a cookie she was blank in the face. Kayla picked "queer" and was in tears because of how much it hurt her. She feels the power after talking about being "free."
Most girls underwhelmed. Terra had a meltdown, for not reaching her potential. Anamaria gets called out by Jay that she was too lean, but she didn't care. Kayla used her fears to create power in her photo. After the shoot, there was shameless public service announcements and Disney Channel Star Demi Lovato she explains about how she is an advocate of anti-bullying. This had nothing to do with Top Model, nor did the winner of the photoshoot get displayed on the website.
Pre-panel, Tyra greets the judges for their first panel which include Nigel Barker, Andre Leon Talley, and guest Diane von Furstenberg. Lexie begins the judging, Nigel loves the eyes and Diane appreciates the attitude. Kacey's neck was broken and she skewed athlete. Jane had nice face, but no body. Tyra forces Kayla to bare her soul more and Kayla immediately starts squeaking and crying. She aces the photo and finds her freedom. Liz has a bland photo and boring body posing. Esther's breasts pop out a bit too much and she is warned about being too hoochie. Kendall's photo doesn't do her justice. Sarah's photo is boring, and her face is forgettable. Terra doesn't succeed with her string. Chris doesn't have enough strength. Chelsey has confidence in her eyes. Rhianna has potential, but doesn't impress. Anamaria needs to work her angles better; her photo was chosen because she didn't look healthy in the others. Ann has a gentle Amazon look to her.
The judges deliberate and reach a decision. They agree that the top photo is Ann. She is followed by Kayla, Chelsey, Kendall, Lexie, Liz, Jane, Esther, Chris, Rhianna, Kacey, and Sara. The bottom two are Terra (posing lacks focus) and Anamaria (possibly too thin?). Terra is safe. Anamaria was shocked, she still doesn't think she's too thin.
Anamaria automatically deserved to go home because of how she was edited. All she said this whole episode was "I'm better than all these girls" and "I'm not from some small town" as if that was a reason for contestants to lose.
