America's Next Top Model - Patrick Demarchelier - Episode Recap

Michael Pascua
The girls learn to sell CoverGirl products and get a photoshoot with Patrick Demarchelier

This week on America's Next Top Model, the drama decreased with last week’s elimination of Lexie. The girls were finally starting to see the final product. We are reminded that Kayla slept in a sleeping bag; the fact that we're reminded that Kayla struggled became foreshadowing for her success this week. The girls pointed out that Ann was the last of the "Quirky" girls that Tyra categorized back in the audition. Luckily for Ann, she's been on the top for every week.

A Tyra Mail split the girls into groups to learn about CoverGirl eye shadow and lipstick.

Team 1: Jane, Kendal, Ann
Team 2: Esther, Kayla, Kasey
Team 3: Liz, Chris, Chelsey

The girls tried their best to work together, but Ann fears that the challenge will involve talking. The next day, the girls arrive at Wal-Mart and Nigel Barker explained to the girls that they have to be charming (but imitation) CoverGirl models. The girls will explain the Eye shadow and Lipstick to the audience. The girls had to market themselves as well as the product. The girls set up tables to talk to contestants. Though no one mentioned anything, Team One tried to use food to win over the audience.

Team One had Jane and Kendal explain all the products to the group. Ann says nothing, became a human mannequin, and looked blankly into the crowd. Our amazing four week model finally showed the big crack in her armor: a lack of personality. Team two tried their best to use personal experience and even attempted to get the men involved. Team three tried a melded approach, but Chris overpowered the group.

After the challenge, Derek Blasberg, fashion writer, explained that he was judging them. Nigel interviewed the audience and they called out Ann for being quiet, appreciated Kayla for being relatable, liked Kacey for being "easy/breezy," and Chris overpowered her group. The crowd scored everyone and Ann got the lowest scores, but the winning team was team two. Kacey had the highest score. The three got a shopping spree at the CoverGirl isle of Wal-Mart. Interestingly, none of them just grabbed everything off of the shelves. Esther knew how to do her makeup so she won a thousand dollar gift card.

The second Tyra Mail mentions having a walk of fame. The girls arrived at Rodeo drive and Jay explained that the photoshoot will be shot by Patrick Demarchelier and Lori Goldstein personally styled the girls. The girls were in a group shot with a male model. The girls had to do a solo walking/jumping shot following the first shot. Jay has a sit down with the girls to explain the groups. Chris is alone, Liz & Kendal, Kayla & Esther, Jane & Kacey, and Chelsey & Ann.

Tyra arrives to watch the contestants. Kacey tried too hard at first and didn't listen to Patrick. Ann was stressed out by the groups that were in the way; she continued to bend her knees funny in front of Tyra. Chelsey also disappointed Jay and got nervous when she had to do her jumps. Kayla had shoes that were a size too small and tried her hardest, but was in pain and couldn't understand Patrick's English. Esther naturally had a good shot. Kendal loved the audience, but Liz blended into the background. In the solo walk, Liz had an odd limp. Chris was surprisingly natural when she walked. After the photoshoot Kacey was nervous that she didn't do well. Kayla's feet were swollen after the shot.

The girls arrived at judging with Patrick Demarchelier as the guest judge. Liz & Kendal were critiqued first; Kendal stood out more than Liz, but she had a natural look to her. Kendal's walking shot had a great body, but her eyes looked odd in close-up. Liz looked cheesy in her solo shot. Esther & Kaya's group shot was interesting, Esther was naturally happy but Kayla looked like she was in pain. Esther's walking shot had flow to it, but Kayla's shot was hit and miss. Jane & Kacey were next; Jane stood out like a supermodel, but Kacey looked like a snobby peanut. Jane's singular shot was natural, but Kacey's lacked the face shot and had dead eyes. Ann & Chelsey's photo was great because it was a team; Ann had control. Somehow Ann looked really awkward in person, but the shots were marvelous. Ann's walking shot had a great pose. Chelsey's shot has a sweetness that looked more Seventeen. Chris was last and her shot with the male model was Seventeen; Andre Leon Talley didn't feel the shot. Her single photo had brightness and effervescence.

The judges deliberated and pointed out unseen beauty shots. The top photo was Ann again. The bottom two consisted of Kayla and Kacey. Kacey disconnected in her photoshoot. Kayla had pain in all her photos. Kayla was warned about becoming stronger after the pain. Kacey was in tears, but Tyra told her that she needed more time.

Callout Order:
1) Ann
2) Jane
3) Kendal
4) Esther
5) Chris
6) Chelsey
7) Liz
8) Kayla
9) Kacey - Eliminated

As the photo montage passed by, Kacey's photos were middle of the road and now that she's eliminated the house should be less dramatic. She had the bone structure and after the first two weeks looked less old, but the bags under her eyes bugged me the whole time.
