'America's Next Top Model' Recap: 'Sonia Dara'

[America's Next Top Model - Season 16, Episode 6]

The girls got back to their houses and found Tyra ready for a lesson. The girls pulled out some notebooks and paper, something I didn't expect the girls to actually have, outside of their journals, and started to take notes. Molly was still upset about the horrible weave; the other girls found her ungrateful. Tyra reassured her that she wanted to teach the girls how they have model archetypes that could all become high-fashion. Tyra's model examples were:

Gisele Bundchen - Bombshell
Coco Rocha - Girl Next Door
Agyness Dyen - Edgy
Sessile Lopez - Couture

There were two other categories of "Androgynous" and "Athletic" but weren't mentioned. Tyra followed and placed these categories with the remaining girls. Though the show only covered the first six girls, both Hannah and Molly's were seen in the background.

Tyra pointed out specific qualities for each of the girls, but she never really goes too far to explain the "how" aspect. She then explained how the girls would have to deal with fame if they won. They talk about cell phone talks, signatures, and photos. Tyra tried to teach the girls how to do their autographs. Kasia's signature was considered lame by Tyra because it had hearts. Transitioning from calling Kasia's signature lame, Tyra wanted to make sure the girls gained thick skin to be successful. Tyra mentioned that she was still hurt by hearsay, but Alexandria automatically chimed in about how she was as tough as a diamond because of all her childhood abuse.

After the lesson from Tyra, Molly's weave was removed, but she had patches missing on the back of her head. Monique was upset that Hannah had the top photo last week, because she's won twice. Monique came from a small town and new she had to get out.

The girls got a mail warning them about having a "following" and the next day Miss Jay announced a signing challenge where the girls would meet their fans. The winner got an A-list dinner with Miss Jay. The fans arrived and the girls shook hands and talked to the contestants. Monique gave up on the competition, Molly was upset with Alexandria, and Monique may have been given an offer to do adult film. Monique then directed a guy that wanted to kiss her to kiss Alexandria instead. Alexandria was clearly upset. She eventually kissed him on the cheek.

After the challenge, Miss Jay reprimanded Alexandria for kissing the guy because he could have turned into a stalker. Jaclyn and Kasia got positive reviews. Monique looked bored of the whole challenge. Miss Jay announced that Kasia was the winner. She got to bring Brittani and Jaclyn for the dinner. The losers had to clean up the mess. Monique was upset and cursed a storm. She threw paper towels on the floor and half-heartedly swept. The girls and Miss J had their special dinner, while the losers had sandwiches in the car. Miss J pointed out that they have to brush off all the negative comments.

The girls came back and Hannah and Mikaela were happy to hear the news of the challenge win, but Monique was upset about the whole section. The girls received another email pointing out a "Tangled Web," and worried about a bug challenge. Later that night, Jaclyn tried to talk to Monique. Monique just wanted to win a week and was getting anxious.

The girls arrived at their photo shoot and Jay introduced the photographer, Jonathan Mannion. He explained that the shoot will be a group mud-covered shoot with the blondes going up against the brunettes. The girls would have to lay on top of each other in an artistic fashion. The girls got placed into bikinis and Monique hoped she could listen to the critiques about not looking too sexy. Kasia was worried about looking a little fat, but she would just have to work on her angles.

The blondes started first and they tried a set of photos where everyone wasn't too close. Eventually the girls sat more upright and got their faces closer together. Later, Molly and Hannah started to stand out; Kasia started to question her movement. Then the girls tried a position where their heads were closer together; Alexandria then tried to move Molly's arm, which upset Jay because she was directing yet again.

The brunettes were next and Mikaela wanted to embrace the new "Bombshell" cookie-cutter mold Tyra just forced her into. Jaclyn attempted to be animalistic, but was reprimanded by Jay. Monique had strong moments, but as quickly as she found it, she lost it almost immediately. Brittany got very good poses, and Jonathan had to take an individual shot of her. I hope Brittani got a copy of that shot for her portfolio.

After the shoot, the girls started to worry about the upcoming elimination. Monique was confused as to who would be eliminated since there were no bad competitors left, though she was so confident that she didn't consider herself to be in any jeopardy. The girls started talking about how they were good at the shoot. Mikaela was upset that she was in the bottom and Kasia was worried about working on a slow start at the photo shoot. Eventually all the girls started to complain about Alexandria and how she had to go because of her bad attitude.

The models arrived at judging and Tyra introduced Nigel Barker, Andre Leon Talley, and guest judge Sonia Dara. The brunettes went first and Andre liked how everyone blended together. Nigel liked Monique's shot, but hoped her body should have slouched a bit more. Jaclyn was worried that she was too animalistic, but the judges loved her bone structure in her face. Mikaela's shot was the weakest for Andre because her eyes didn't have energy. Brittani stood out for Nigel and even though she was missing a leg, she looked great. The blondes followed and Nigel was a bit surprised about the connection. Nigel loved Hannah's spark; there's emotion with calmness. Tyra hoped she pulled in a bit. Molly's shot was gorgeous, but one eye looked too small. Kasia got a positive review for her interacting. Alexandria looked like she was trying to join in. Tyra complained that she was inconsistent.

After the judges' deliberation, the top photo was Brittani. The bottom two were Mikaela and Monique. Monique was eliminated.
