Last Week: We had a recap show that didn't show much, except for the fact that everyone likes Allison and Allison did try to make friends with the misunderstood Alexandria. That and the fact that Bianca was loud, but couldn't really back up her talk with strong photos.
We return to Crete and Angelea was surprised that she survived last week's elimination. She was still upset with Dominique and Lisa's reactions from last week's personal critiques, but Lisa was now convinced that Angelea was easily beatable because of her explosive nature. The girls returned to Laura's first place photo and while she was happy to be the runner up in the petite season, she's even happier to hold her ground with all the normal sized girls. Lisa was convinced that Laura was the biggest competition, even though Lisa had a lot of experience and claimed to be more versatile.
The girls were bussed to a local boutique and Nigel welcomed the girls. He announced that the girls would have to impress Franca Sozzani, Vogue Italia's queen by writing a blog about the fashion of Greece. The girls would have to pick an outfit, find a location, take photos, and write the whole blog in three hours. The winner would get a trip back to Greece. The girls quickly picked out their outfits. Allison was worried about standing out against the louder girls. Lisa asked her translator to tell the driver to drive her to a place where the driver would make passionate love with his girlfriend. I half expected him to drive home to his apartment. Angelea was a Broadcast Journalism major so she had knowledge of what people are looking for; remember, she knows how to do classy because she's worked at a bank. Laura was last to leave and she decided to go to a boat dock, but worried about her dyslexia becoming a problem. Lisa focused on food and clubs, which technically was not what Nigel wanted. Allison and Laura ended up on the same area but neither wanted to stop at another place because of the short amount of time. Angelea wanted to channel her urban background and after a few shots returned from a more ghetto area.
Allison was last to return and Nigel arrived pretty quickly. Nigel took the blogs to study with Franca. The girls returned to a Tyra Mail and were bussed to the set of Greek TV show The Island. Mr. Jay explained that Tyra would be directing the girls in a motion editorial for Tyra's book Modelland. She explains the story of how the main character, Tookie, was unique mostly because the whole thing was about a fantasy Tyra. Jay explained that things would be shot out of order for two days. The judging would be in a two day process. Like always, the girls had hair and makeup done. The girls were dressed by Michael Cinco and he created these wonderful outfits that were both vibrant and flowing. There was a montage of different shots, representing chapters in the books. Lisa was given a personal scene with her and a baby doll. It would have been hysterical if Lisa had to model with a real infant, which would have shown true modeling talent. Lisa understood how to find the light and work with a doll, but at that point she could have modeled a pillow with eyes.
Laura's scene was how she was looking for a button in garbage. She ended up taking the garbage rustling in a comedic fashion. Laura then had a shot with whipped cream, because Tookie loved whipped cream and Tyra wanted to make her contestants suffer. She was worried about looking too sexy, so she tried to be as passionate as possible. At least she didn't just spray the whip cream all over her face like in the Greek Salad shoot. Allison had a lot of trouble with the sensitivity of light and had to squint. Allison then emerged as a cat. Allison embraced the quirkiness of Tyra's concepts. She then had to model a blood orange and then got to play with fake blood. Jealous.
Angelea was told to be emotional for one scene and it touched her. She was in tears because she knew that she doubted herself. She tried to put her best in the shot. The girls wrapped for day one of the shots.
During the break of the shoot Nigel had a phone call with Franca, because Franca was way too important for her to actually stop and see the girls. She critiqued each blog: Allison's was too short, Laura's post wasn't interesting, Lisa had a nice Hollywood style but couldn't compare, and Angelea had a lot of class in her article. Lisa was excited about the second day of recording, but was more excited about who impressed Franca the most. Nigel arrived at the hotel and talked to the girls about the results. After he mentioned the positives of each girl, the winner was Angelea. Angelea felt like this was redemption.
It was the morning of day two and Jay Manuel explained that Tyson Beckford would be modeling with the girls. He had some time to talk to the girls generally, he pointed out that Allison was very reserved. Reserved isn't a horrible thing that Tyson kept emphasizing. I think I'd rather work with a reserved Allison than an always crazy, unpredictable Lisa or a ticking time-bomb Angelea. Tyra had several shots by herself, to make sure that Tyra was queen bee. The girls started to do the opening scene and had to pose and run. They followed with the video reveal of who the winner of America's Next Top Model would be.
With eliminations coming up, the girls were at least happy that three girls would keep fighting. The girls arrived at the judges’ panel and with Nigel Barker and Andre Leon Talley was guest judge Tyson Beckford. Tyra announced that part one would air this week. The video was a lot of interesting, but odd shots set to dub-step. Then we made sure that Tyra was the real star of the show. Angelea was first to be critiqued and she was very convincing with the tears, her running on the other hand looked awful. Laura had a stronger personality in the video, but Tyson warned her that the camera shouldn't be there. Allison got rave reviews from Nigel, but Tyson noted how the sun was a problem for her. Lisa was last and she had strong physical skills and acting. Her yelling was perfect. Tyra suggested that she got too primal.
After the judges deliberated for almost two hours. Ken Mok, the executive producer needed to make sure there was a vote and Tyson was clearly upset with the turnout. Tyra announced that the top girl was Lisa. The bottom two ended up being Allison and Laura. Laura had the best personality, but she may lack depth. Allison was introverted and shy, but her quirkiness was the best asset. Allison ended up being safe and Laura was eliminated. Allison was warned to push the personality with only one week to go.
Model Callout
1) Lisa
2) Angelea
3) Allison
4) Laura
Next Week: It’s the finals and I think Tyra realized that everything has to be over the top. The photos? Over the top. The runway show? Over the top. Angelea’s reactions? Over the top.
