America's Next Top Model: "You're Beautiful, Now Change"

The girls anticipate makeovers that would take their looks to the next level.

The girls came into the house to find Tyra sitting in their living room with a crown on her head. Talking over a box of pizza, Tyra talked about how she made over her career as a supermodel. Hint. She told the girls that when she started to gain curves, her agency told her to lose 15 pounds. And Tyra's mom said, "Screw that. Let's order pizza."

After that, Tyra switched from high-fashion editorial into mainstream modeling, for Victoria's Secret, Sport Illustrated: SI, and the like, which made Tyra Banks a household name. That's when Tyra revealed that the girls are getting makeovers that week.

After the screaming died down, Tyra proceeded to tell the models the details. Just when she said, "Analeigh, you're getting . . ." Miss J came in dressed as a witch with a bucket of apples, just like in Sleeping Beauty. He gave Tyra an apple and told her that it will make her a top model forever!

Like in the story, Tyra "died" after one bite. The girls actually looked concerned, but then Prince Couture came to the rescue. In this case, it was Jay Manuel. He "kissed" Tyra in order to awaken her. Acting dazed and confused, Tyra said that she was too woozy to tell the girls about their makeovers.

This meant that the girls will not know what will happen to them, just like in Cycle 10. In the Neil George salon in L.A., the suspense went even further, for all the mirrors to the hair stations were covered with black fabric. The Jays told them that they'll take the fabric off once the transformation is done.

As for the hairdos, they didn't have much dramatic change, unlike the previous seasons. I was expecting major model teardroplets, but there were no meltdowns this cycle, it seems. As the stylists cut each girl's hair, there was a separate window on the screen, where Princess Tyra spoke with her fairy-tale voice, revealing to viewers at home what will happen to the girls.

Marjorie did not get a cut, but they colored her hair a dark brown to make her look younger and fresher. Joslyn got a weave with long, wavy hair. Samantha got her California blonde locks chopped off into a short Rihanna-style bob to make her less Sweet Valley High and more New York City. She shed some tears, but it was no meltdown. She actually loved it.

Hannah got bangs and a short Vidal Sassoon-inspired cut. Her hair actually reminded me of Nikeysha's hair. Clark got her hair colored a very dark brown to make her look edgier. Is it just me or does she have a really weird hairline?

Lauren Brie looked fine before her makeover, but in order to take her look one step further, the stylists lightened out her locks to a platinum blonde. With Sheena, there can only be one Kimora, as Tyra said. So to take her away from that, she got her hair lightened to a medium brown with caramel highlights. Analeigh needed more pop, so they just lightened he hair to a blonde. She said she didn't know how to act as a blonde, since she's a more reserved personality and brunette hair did that justice.

The biggest change out of all the girls definitely went to Elina. Miss J told her, "You should be scurred." A Top Model first, they took her out of the emo-ish dark brown hair, and gave her a red, wavy do. Elina cried, saying that she did not know how to be herself.

McKey got a very short bob colored jet black. Isis got extensions and her color evened out. Brittany earlier complained that the judges kept saying that she was too pretty-meaning plain-to be a high fashion model. So when they gave her extensions with a slight wave, I was kind of confused. Miss J thought the same; he told her that she still looked pretty.

Afterwards, the girls were whisked off to Wal-Mart, where they met Sutan, the show's fierce makeup artist, and Chrissy Barker, a rep from CoverGirl Cosmetics, and wife of judge Nigel Barker.

Chrissy and Sutan reminded the girls that this cycle's winner will have her picture in Wal-Marts across America in the CoverGirl section. What an accomplishment. Afterwards, the girls learned that there was a makeup challenge, and that the winner will do a how-to segment on CoverGirl's Web site.

Those poor girls. They were a hot mess. Marjorie even called the store Walgreens instead of Wal-Mart. Hannah won the challenge, and she was genuinely excited to be on Walmart.com.

At home, the girls read the latest Tyra Mail and they figure out that they will do a bathing suit shoot the next day. While chatting and relaxing, Brittany revealed that she missed her mom and her family. As some of the girls were reminiscing, Elina walked by and said, "I've never loved my mom." This turned into a mini battle between Elina and Brittany.

Brittany and Joslyn tried to pound information out of Elina, asking how it is possible that someone does not love their mom. Elina said that she actually hated her mother. When asked if her mom fed her and put a roof over her head, Elina said yes, but that's not love, in her opinion. Brittany thought that Elina was an "evil bitch," "ungrateful," a "psycho," and that she was "using" her mother.

At the gorgeous Malibu beach for their shoot, the girls were greeted with Mr. Jay and world-famous photographer, Russell James, who also shot Tyra's groundbreaking Sports Illustrated: Swimsuit Edition cover. I about gasped for 3 minutes. It's not every day that someone from that caliber is featured in ANTM.

Then Mr. Jay brought out supermodel Susan Holmes, who was also the swimsuit designer that would be supplying the bathing suits. At first, I was like, who? But then I remembered . . . slowly.

Jay then revealed that he would not be directing the girls for this shoot. Panel wanted to test the girls early in the competition if they could work with solely the photographer . . . and Susan. Instead, he will be upstairs in hair and makeup, coaching the girls on their strengths and weaknesses, while also giving pep talks and advice.

As always, some of the girls were fierce, and some did not so good. With Analeigh, both Russell and Susan agreed that she did not know how to pose and that she needed to study more. Russell also found that Hannah was trying too hard and that she was "skitzy." They found Brittany "painful to shoot." Isis was worried about her situation being a transgender, but Mr. Jay reminded her that neither Russell nor Susan knew about it, so she didn't have to worry.

Perhaps Isis was thinking too much, because Russell found her difficult and he thought that she didn't have the potential to be a model.

In judging, some of the girls got high marks. The judges were shocked-in a good way-with Joslyn's, Sheena's, and Marjorie's photos, among others. They compared McKey to Linda Evangelista and said that Elina looked racially ambiguous, which is a great thing as a model.

Others, like Analeigh, Brittany, and Isis did not have great pictures. In the end, Elina got called first, while Analeigh and Brittany were in the bottom two, and Brittany was sent home. "So Brittany," Tyra said, "I want you to go home and buy every single high-fashion magazine. Not the American ones, but the European ones. I want you to study them and really immerse yourself in fashion and practice every single thing that they do. Because it's there, we see it. It's just not being reflected. Okay?"

On the next episode, the girls will wear blindfolds while practicing their runway walk. I am very excited to hear Miss J commenting their walks. And since two girls will be eliminated, the pressure is on.
