Filmmaker Adam Shankman is reportedly courting Academy Award nominee Amy Adams for the role of Regina in Rock of Ages, an upcoming big-screen adaptation of the Tony-nominated Broadway production.
Adams, who garnered countless award nominations for her portrayal of Charlene Fleming in 2010’s The Fighter, would play a journalist who sleeps with Tom Cruise’s rock star character, Stacee Jaxx, shortly after conducting an interview.
The character’s initial intention is to eviscerate Jaxx, but they end up falling into a bedroom romp when a seduction ensues and they perform a duet to Foreigner’s “I Want to Know What Love Is,” according to Deadline.com.
The role of Regina was originally offered to Love and Other Drugs star Anne Hathaway, but she turned down the opportunity to play Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, BroadwayWorld.com reports.
While Adams’ level of interest in the project is currently unknown, she would have the opportunity to put her vocal talents to the test on the big screen. The actress is reportedly continuing her quest to portray legendary rock singer Janis Joplin in an upcoming biopic, and she also sings in Disney’s upcoming children’s film, The Muppets.
The star-studded cast of Rock of Ages already includes Cruise, 30 Rock’s Alec Baldwin, recording artist Mary J. Blige, and former Dancing with the Stars professional Julianne Hough.
