One of the most talked about moments of the Emmy Awards on Sunday was when six of TV’s funniest ladies stormed the stage in a seemingly spontaneous beauty pageant moment.

Standing together acting teary eyed and holding tightly to each other’s hands, Laura Linney, Edie Falco, Amy Poehler, Martha Plimpton and Tina Fey waited for Rob Lowe and Sofia Vergara to announce Mike & Molly star Melissa McCarthy the winner of the Outstanding Leading Actress in a Comedy Emmy. McCarthy was literally crowned Miss Emmy winner being handed a bouquet and tiara.

“Holy smokes! Wow, it’s my first and best pageant ever,” McCarthy said during her acceptance speech, OK! Magazine reports.

The moment, according to McCarthy, was the work of Amy Poehler and Martha Plimpton who thought it up over dinner.

"I heard [the plan] first through Martha [Plimpton] but she said, 'Amy [Poehler] has an idea,’” she told reporters backstage, according to People. “Before I heard it I said, 'I am in.'"

"If Amy Poehler thinks something is funny, I will do it,” she added.
