Amy Winehouse Cleared of Assault Charges

Amy Winehouse avoided rehab in her song and now in real life, she also manages to avoid jail.

British singer Amy Winehouse evaded prison, Friday, when she was acquitted of assault charges. Winehouse was accused of punching Sherene Flash, a dancer, in the face at the Prince's Trust Ball in Berkeley Square, Central London back in September when the latter had asked for a photo.

Winehouse testified that she had merely meant to push the dancer away because she was scared. The dancer had tried to put her arm around Winehouse. According to Patrick Gibbs, her lawyer, the singer felt threatened. "Five foot seven in burlesque heels places you at quite an advantage over five foot two in ballet pumps," he said to the court on Friday.

District Judge Timothy Workman dismissed all charges towards the singer after remarking, "I cannot be sure that this was not an accident."

As for Winehouse, "I'm relieved. I'm going home," she remarked to reporters upon leaving the courthouse.
