Hollywood studios hope this weekend will be a livelier one than last and are rolling out three films to major markets.
Premiering this weekend is the highly-anticipated "The Easy A," a John Hughes-type cross of "Juno" and "The Scarlet Letter" starring Emma Stone. It is expected to earn the most money in the box office.
Ben Affleck's "The Town" also hits theaters this weekend. The Boston-based thriller has earned good buzz and critics are already talking Oscar.
"Devil" is about a group of people trapped in an elevator, with one of them suspected of being the devil himself. M. Night Shyamalan helped write the story and served as a producer. If it doesn't help restore the filmmaker's reputation after his string of busts, maybe it will scare people into using the stairs.
"Resident Evil: Afterlife" was the only film to hit nationwide markets last week, in what was the worst box office weekend of the year. "Afterlife" did well making $27 million, on par with previous entries in the film franchise.
