Andre 3000 To Star In Children's Movies

The one-half of Outkast duo is adding acting to his resume

Yet another classic Hollywood transition from singing to acting is in the works for Outcast's Andre 3000. The rap star has made it known that he wants to make children's movies with edgier themes. "I've noticed that kids, they're looking up to the Jay-Zs, they're looking up to Outkast," the 30-year old artist told the Associated Press. "So kids' movies and cartoons, they're getting smarter ... because it seems like kids are cooler." Andre isn't only about making music hits. "The Hit," a film about a fifth grader searching for a new wife for his dad, will be his first on-screen movie that targets a younger demographic. (His first supporting role was in "Be Cool," with John Travolta.) Andre will also step behind the camera as co-producer for this Nickelodeon and MTV Films project. "They called me about a project that wasn't even a script at the time," he said. "They pitched the idea to me and I loved it." Not only does the rapper love starring in movies. It has helped him keep his ego under control. "In music, if you don't feel like going to the studio that night, you don't have to. When you're in a film, you're with a crew; it's not about you at all. Film is totally crossing out vanity and crossing out yourself," he said. Outkast fans fret not; Andre 3000 is not ditching his music career to be a movie star. He is back in the studio with Big Boi working on their new album.
