Andy Richter Speaks Out Against NBC Over 'Tonight Show'

O'Brien's sidekick talks on 'Regis & Kelly.'

Andy Richter, sidekick of Conan O'Brien during his ill-fated run on The Tonight Show, is definitely smarting after O'Brien's dethroning from the choice NBC late-night spot in favor of Jay Leno.

When asked about whether he felt ill will toward NBC or Leno, Richter responded, "Why wouldn't I?" Richter spat some venom when he filled in for Regis Philbin on Live! with Regis and Kelly on Tuesday.

"NBC, definitely, everybody said they were going to do something and they didn't," said Richter to Kelly Ripa. Richter went on to say that he was truly upset that Leno was allowed to reclaim his throne only nine months after O'Brien inherited it, claiming the network broke long-standing commitments it made to O'Brien.

"I guess I'm really good at getting kicked off the air," said Richter. "Because it's what I've been doing for the last 10 years."

O'Brien departed from NBC and Tonight in January due to complaints by the network of low ratings. Both O'Brien's and Richter's futures remain unclear.

"You and Conan should do another show on another network called 'We Were on The Tonight Show,'" Ripa joked to Richter. "Wouldn't that be exciting!"
