Angelina Jolie's Charity Work Continues
Angelie Jolie is calling for more spending on orphans around the globe. This past week, Jolie helped an orphans advocacy group set up headquarters in Washington, D.C. Yesterday, she began pushing for the U.S. to give more aid to developing countries for use on education. Then she and four others popped in at the opening of the Global Action for Children's Washington headquarters.
Among the reasons for Jolie's attendance is that the GAC group is seeking to persuade President Bush to allot an additional $2.5 billion per year to aiding orphans and education in developing countries. Jolie spoke at the opening, voicing her support for the group's goals.
Jolie also has her own charity, co-created by her partner, Brad Pitt. The Jolie-Pitt Foundation was created last year and has donated $1 million to GAC and Medecins sans Frontieres/Doctors without Borders. The charity has also donated $100,000 to the Duk Lost Boys Clinic, a medical facility supervised by the Direct Change's Sudan Project. Pitt was also the executive producer of a documentary about the Duk Lost Boys Clinic.
