Anna Nicole Smith's Lawyer Pleads Not Guilty to Drug Case

The Associated Press reports that on Wednesday, at the Los Angeles Superior Court, Stern and two doctors, physician Sandeep Kapoor and psychiatrist Kristine Eroshevich, pleaded not guilty to six counts, including conspiracy in using fake names to provide thousands of prescription pills to Smith, which lead to the 39 year-old's death in Feb. 2007.

Prosecutors claim that the trio's vast amounts of prescription drugs, included methadone, clonazepam and chloral hydrate.

If convicted they could face up to five years and eight months in prison.

According to People Magazine, Stern, who was Smith's lawyer and boyfriend, held a brief press conference outside of court. His lawyer, Steve Sadow, exclaimed to reporters that his defendant "did not commit a crime, period!"

The defendants will return to court on June 8. If the case moves forward, the judge will set a date for a preliminary hearing.
