Anna Wintour Makes Nice for "Devil" Movie
Most celebrities would speed-dial their lawyers if they heard a movie was being made about them -- and if their character was called Satan.
But American "Vogue" editor Anna Wintour, whose fictional alter ego is set to take the screen in "The Devil Wears Prada" this year, doesn't seem to be bitter about her portrayal.
"...Prada," based on a book by former "Vogue" fashion assistant Lauren Weisberger, is a juicy roman-a-clef about a terrorizing boss at a fictional magazine called "Runway" and her ridiculous demands that eventually drive her hard-working assistants mad. Meryl Streep will play the editor, Anne Hathaway her long-suffering employee.
But "Nuclear Wintour" smiled when a reporter approached her at this week's London Fashion Week and asked her about the upcoming movie -- something she wasn't able to do when the book reigned on the NY Times Bestseller list.
Wintour, famous for her Chanel sunglasses and love for furs, said she'd like to have a luncheon for all "Vogue" assistants the day of the film's release -- and award them all Prada goodie bags.
Is she trying to convince them not to follow in Weisberger's footsteps, or offering a belated apology for the treatment of years past? Whatever the reason, it's pretty good to be a "Vogue" assistant right now.
