Another Britney Ex Takes on the Super Bowl: Fully-Clothed
Britney Spears' ex-husband and emerging rapper, Kevin Federline, has announced that like Britney's other ex, Justin Timberlake, he too will be a part of Super Bowl history. Only this time, instead of performing, K-Fed will appear in a commercial for Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company, which will be shown during some of the most expensive air-time on television. Although he reportedly will be surrounded by beautiful women in the commercial, no "wardrobe malfunctions" should be expected.
Nationwide Insurance, the Columbus-based insurance provider known for it's slogan, "On Your Side," explained that their 30-second Super Bowl 2007 commercial featuring K-Fed is part of their new "Life Comes At You Fast" ad campaign. In the commercial, Federline, 28, is first seen living the extravagant life of a rap star complete with girls and bling, but he ends up working at a fast-food restaurant.
Nationwide Vice President of Advertising and Brand Management, Steven Schreibman, claimed, "No one has personified 'Life Comes at You Fast' in the media better than Federline...Our partnership with Kevin shows the world that he has a great sense of humor." Federline, who worked at Pizza Hut as a teenager, agrees the ad will make viewers laugh, telling USA Today, "I felt that it was a good time to come out and make fun of myself...It's perfect for Nationwide, and it really works for me. I try not to take myself too seriously."
Unlike many other companies with Super Bowl ad slots, Nationwide is not hiding any secrets about the ad to tease viewers. In fact, they are going as far as posting the ad on their website on January 29, 2007, a week before the Super Bowl, and they claim the ad may appear on YouTube prior to its airing on Super Bowl Sunday.
K-Fed does not have to worry about embarrassing himself too much, however. In 2005, MC Hammer starred in a similar Nationwide Super Bowl commercial, where his belongings were repossessed after the media learned that he truly was bankrupt. Male Model Fabio Lanzoni also parodied himself in one of the company's commercials, as well.
