AOL and kids company team up to teach children about the adult world

AOL is joining with a kids company called A Squared to produce webisodes featuring prominent celebrities that will school children about life as a grown-up which includes learning about finance, the environment and other areas.

AOL and A Squared, a company for children, have come together to teach kids about life by using webisodes starring well known celebrities.

According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, "The shows will feature personalities like Warren Buffett, Gisele Bundchen, Martha Stewart and the late Carl Sagan and will teach kids about finance, the environment, creativity and science. Working in collaboration with AOL, A Squared will produce a season's worth of 3-5 minute webisodes involving each celeb that will premier on AOL. No financial details were made available."

A Squared was formed by industry and marketing professionals Andy Heyward and Amy Moynihan.

Besides pairing with A Squared on the project, AOL is also working with MGX Labs to produce interactive worlds for each webisode, which will include games and activities that will widen each webisode's subject. AOL is scheduled to debut the "Secret Millionaire's Club," featuring Buffett, and "GiGi & the Green Team," featuring Bundchen this fall. Meanwhile, in spring of 2010, AOL will unveil "Little Martha," featuring Stewart, and "Kosmos," inspired by Sagan and created by Cosmos co-author Ann Druyan.

"A Squared was created to introduce great entertainment for kids that also serves to teach them about the world around them in fun ways," said Heyward. "We are privileged to have some of the premiere icons of our time to inspire modern content for children."

Heyward has been the head of programming for DIC Entertainment for 30 years and has a significant understanding when it comes to children's programming. During his tenure at DIC, he has formed and supervised programs such as "Strawberry Shortcake," "Inspector Gadget" and "Alvin and the Chipmunks." As for Moynihan, she is a two decade brand marketing expert and has introduced products for brands like McDonald's and Disney Cruise Line.
