Apple Expresses Confidence in iPad Battery Life with Replacement Policy
The Apple Company has unveiled a new support bulletin at its official Web site that addresses the possibility of an iPad’s battery losing its ability to be effectively charged. The generous replacement policy that Apple has revealed will detrimentally affect Apple’s iPad income if there is an unexpected outbreak of battery failures, according to InformationWeek.com. The company has decided that they will not only replace the power cell if there is a battery charging malfunction but also the iPad itself.
The support bulletin states, “If your iPad requires service due to the battery's diminished ability to hold an electrical charge, Apple will replace your iPad for a service fee [of $99]. You will receive a replacement iPad that will not contain any of your personal data.” Apple is recommending that their customers sync their iPad’s with iTunes in order to back up all of their personal information, apps and media files in case they have to submit their iPad for service.
Apple has clarified that a properly functioning iPad should be able to hold a battery charge for approximately 10 hours. The company has provided itself with some flexibility in regards to accepting responsibility for a malfunctioning battery by clarifying that a customer is not eligible for Battery Replacement Service if they have damaged the product.
