Apple Warns Customers
The iPone is the marriage of a phone, the internet and an iPod and many people would kidnap their neighbors dog to get their hands on one. It is a highly coveted piece of technology that will only work with AT&T service. However, hackers and other technology brainiacs found a way to unlock the iPhone to work with other providers. The process involves installing some software and a bit of techno know how. However, Apple released a warning to all the iPhone hackers out there. According to Reuters, they are saying that when the phone receives a software update the hacked devices will be rendered useless. Doctored phones "will likely result in the modified iPhone becoming permanently inoperable." So what do you do if you have a hacked iPhone? There are two options, forgo using the Apple update until modified software if created, or cross your fingers and hope nothing happens. Phil Schiller, Apple's head of worldwide product marking, said "We are not doing anything proactively to disable iPhones that have been hacked or unlocked." Since the phone would not be covered under warranty under those circumstances users would be left with a very expensive paperweight.
