Applegate Continues with Scheduled Filming
Christina Applegate is not allowing cancer to keep her from living her life. According to the SF Gate, ABC has confirmed that Applegate will continue to film her hit show, Samantha Who?, following the same schedule that had been planned prior to her double mastectomy three weeks ago. Over the next eight months, in addition to working, Applegate will undergo surgery to reconstruct her breasts, both of which she had removed after being diagnosed with breast cancer in July. Doctors had found cancer in only one of Applegate's breasts, but she decided to take both off anyway and is now, in her own words, "100 percent clear and clean," the New York Times reported. According to Newsday, women with a high likelihood of breast cancer are increasingly choosing double mastectomies as a preventative measure. Applegate's mother had breast cancer, and the actress has also said that she carries a specific gene mutation that can heighten the risk of the cancer by up to 85 percent, Newsday reported. According to Reuters, Applegate will be using her celebrity name and wealth to promote awareness for her disease, starting with a charity that will raise money to cover the costs of MRIs for women in need. Through all her struggles, the Emmy award winning actress seems to have remained optimistic. After announcing her planned reconstructive surgery, she told Good Morning America that she was "going to have cute boobs 'til I'm 90.'"
