Apple's iPad Announcement Causes Widespread Internet Chaos
Wednesday’s announcement from Apple about their highly anticipated iPad was expected to be met with a great deal of fan fare and interest from technological enthusiasts as well as casual observers. However, few expected the iPad event to create the massive amount of widespread chaos that existed on a variety of immensely popular websites. Twitter, Cover It Live, PC World and Technologizer were all flooded with amounts of traffic that their servers were unable to sufficiently handle.
Keith McSpurren, the President of Cover It Live, commented on the commotion that was caused by Apple’s iPad announcement by saying, “It’s been a tough day for us and our customers. We’ve got smart people who generally try very hard to make this thing work but we didn’t even see the breadth and depth of today’s coverage.” Cover It Live is a popular form of software for websites that utilize live-blogging of important events and the software shockingly melted down for approximately 20 minutes as a result of interest generated by the iPad.
According to PC World, Twitter was drastically affected by the debut of the Apple iPad since so many of its users were commenting on the announcement. The site’s speed was slowed substantially and Twitter users complained about tweets that had gone missing and others that were delayed by the amount of website traffic.
