An Art Attack in New York

Priceless painting gets punctured.

This past weekend, a Picasso painting suffered damage from a clumsy visitor. On Friday at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a woman who was there are part of an adult education art class, accidentally tripped and tore a six-inch vertical tear in the lower right hand corner of one of the paintings. The art work in question was a six foot by four foot Rose Period painting done by Pablo Picasso named The Actor and valued at approximately $80 million.

Thankfully, the tear didn’t occur "in a focal point of the composition" according to the museum. Repairs to painting will take place in the coming weeks and “will be unobtrusive”, meaning that the damage to painting overall was minimal.

This is not the first time something like this has happened to a Picasso painting. An American casino owner and art collector Steve Wynn, was selling Le Rêve (The Dream), a $48 million painting for $139 million. The deal was canceled however when the collector accidentally put his elbow through the canvas while showing the picture off. These kinds of accidents could happen to anyone, but who knew they could be this costly?
