Artie Lange Attempts Suicide

Forty-two year old comedian Artie Lange was found in his Hoboken, N.J., apartment on Saturday suffering from nine self-inflicted stab wounds.

Lange’s mother, who routinely stops by to drop off food, found her ailing son alone in his home after his alleged suicide attempt, and immediately dialed 911. The popular radio show personality, best known for his work on the Howard Stern Show, has had a long history of drug abuse and depression.

In November 2008, Lange’s memoir, Too Fat to Fish, debuted at number one on The New York Times Best Seller list. He dedicated the autobiographical piece to friend and coworker Howard Stern, and in it he openly discusses his battle with drug addiction.

Artie has also appeared in many television shows and movies. In his most notable role, Lange played Norm MacDonald’s portly sidekick Sam McKenna in the hit film Dirty Work.

Lange has yet to comment about the suicide attempt, but he is reported to be in good condition.
