Ashlee Simpson Approves of Jessica and John

Ashlee Simpson approves of her big sister's latest flame. Musician John Mayer and Jessica Simpson have been dating for eight months, and so far, all is well in paradise.

In People magazine's latest issue, a friend of Ashlee Simpson dishes that, "Ashlee loves John." The pal adds, "She thinks he is great for her. More importantly, Jess is happy."

Jessica Simpson, 26, and Mayer, 29, have been seen traveling all over together, from Rome to Los Angeles. Simpson recently flew to Australia where Mayer is touring in concert.

Friends say Simpson is enjoying her time with Mayer, especially because it's much more low-key than her relationship with ex-hubby Nick Lachey.

"When she was with Nick, she was really under her family's thumb," says a friend. "This is a relationship that is all hers."

Another pal, singer/actress Christina Milian, agrees that this relationship seems solid.

"Clearly this is a relationship that's not for the cameras. It's not about celebrity," says Milian, who appeared in Simpson's "Public Affair" video. "It seems like they truly have an attraction to each other, and they're both clearly very talented as well."
