Ashlee Simpson Moves to "Melrose Place"

Actress/singer reportedly signed for new version of hit series.

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz is the newest tenant to move to Melrose Place, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The singer-actress was signed by the CW to play a role in the remake of the 1990s hit series, which is in development at the moment. She joins the previously cast Michael Rady and Katie Cassidy.

Simpson's character, Violet, will be a small-town girl who moves to the big city. While she appears to be a light-hearted person, there is a big secret in her past.

Simpson will return to TV after four years in which she had focused on her music career. Her biggest prior role was as Cecilia on 7th Heaven, which catapulted her to stardom. She later starred in her own reality show, The Ashlee Simpson Show, on MTV. Simpson and her husband, Pete Wentz, will also appear on the March 18 episode of CSI: NY as a Bonnie-and-Clyde-like couple.
