Ashlee Simpson-Wentz Makes Broadway Debut
2009 was a hectic year for Ashlee Simpson-Wentzshe had a newborn baby (Bronx Mowgli Wentz), had TV spots on "Melrose Place" and "CSI," and is now going to appear on Broadway in the part of Roxie Hart in the famous musical "Chicago."
Simpson first played Hart in 2006 in London's West End (the British version of Broadway), and the reviews she received from that performance were exemplary. She performed at the Ambassador Theater in New York last night, and she was well received then also. Simpson will be portraying Roxie Hart eight shows a week until February 7.
Simpson said in a report with MTV News that she could bring a little bit of herself into the character of Roxie Hart. Hart's character is a showgirl whose desire to be famous and on top leads to murder, and although Simpson has never murdered anyone, she knows what it is like to have to deal with fame and celebrity life, which is what Roxie eventually had to deal with. "Roxie's a fun character to play," she said.
