Asian Star Jay Chou to Be "Green Hornet's" Kato
Taiwan's Jay Chou has landed the role as Kato, the martial artist and sidekick, in Columbia Pictures' "Green Hornet."
Chou is a popular singer and actor in Asia. His album "Jay" (2000) received immense success, and Chou has been in Chinese films such as "Kung Fu Dunk," a comedy about a martial artist who takes on basketball.
Last month, Stephen Chow abandoned production and left open the roles of director and Kato. Michel Gondry since has filled in as director.
Chou will be joining a cast led by Seth Rogen, who will play the crime-fighter. Rogen also wrote the film along with Evan Goldberg, basing it on the radio series by George W. Trendle.
On taking on the role last filled by Bruce Lee, Chou said in a press release: "It's an overwhelming experience
I won't try to be Bruce Lee's Kato -- I will try to bring my own interpretation to the part. Of course, it's a dream role, and I'm looking forward to the challenge."
