Atari to Publish Ghostbusters Video Game in 2009
After much hoopla, Ghostbusters: The Video Game - Atari has acquired the rights to the game based on the popular 1984 movie.
After last year's Activision-Blizzard merger and the debacle that ensued, Ghostbusters: The Video Game has finally found a home in Atari's assemblage of entertainment games.
This video game will have the authenticity of the original film, as Gamepro.com explains, "The game is being written by the original Ghostbusters writers, Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd, and features voice work from the original cast, including both Aykroyd and Ramis, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts. It takes place two years after the events of Ghostbusters II (you know, the one where the statue of liberty walks through NYC) when Manhattan is once again overrun by ghosts and ghouls."
Ghostbusters: The Video Game is not the only new addition to Atari's extensive video game catalog, it has also added The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena as well.
It seems Atari will partner with Sony Pictures Consumer Products and game's developer, Terminal Ready, to bring the game to the public in 2009 just in time for the original film's release. As for the game's inner workings, according to the Star-Ledger at NJ.com, "[The video game] is set two years after Ghostbusters 2 and features Manhattan once again under siege from paranormal foes. Who else would the beleaguered New Yorkers call?"
Fans of the movie will be elated to hear the news that Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray will lend their voices to their characters in the game.
Though its release date isn't until 2009, the previews of the game look very encouraging. So, look out gamesters, cause who are you gonna call in 2009? Ghostbusters!!!
