'The Bachelor' Recap: He Means Business
This season's bachelor, pilot Jake Pavelka, sure doesn't hesitate to get down to business, especially in tonight's episode. As usual, our friendly host Chris comes into the women's mansion and announces that there will be three dates: one group date, one "one-on-one" date, and one "two-on one" date. On the "two-on-one" date, one woman will be asked to leave that very night. But hold on... apparently, "Everything was about to change." Unlike the other seasons, the girls were asked to move out of the house and into two RVs parked outside the house for the remainder of the show. They will be taking a tour up the California coast. As if there wasn't already enough drama in the house, now the women can get even friendlier in the small confines of a moving vehicle. Say hello to a sorority-on-wheels?
On the "one-on-one" date, Jake chooses to get comfortable with city girl, Gia. They share an intimate date in a Californian vineyard. They joyously play "hide and seek" among the greenery. Later, an intense game of "spin the bottle" takes place in the vineyard, and the two share their first kiss. It seems they hit it off. Needless to say, Gia gets a rose.
Meanwhile, the girls at home anticipate who will be attending the group date. As the card is read aloud, we find the remaining two people that aren't called, Ella and and Kathryn, will be attending the "two-on-one" date.
The next day arrives, and the girls head to Pismo beach for a group date. They fight over who gets to sit next to Jake while dune buggying in the sands. Ali wins. Next, they sand surf. Jake and Tenley have a moment while they roll down a dune in the sand and get close. At dinner, Jake asks to have some time with Vienna, but she declines asking to go last so she could be the last person he talks to before bed. Long story short, as a result of getting closer to Tenley, she receives the rose for the night.
The "two-on-one" date comes the next night. Kathryn obviously feels strange while Jake and Ella converse. She even tries to enter the conversation, but fails awkwardly. Jake takes Ella outside, and in a shocking decision, tells her she's amazing, but he's feeling stronger connections with other girls. Personally, I was surprised considering the Seaworld date they had last week. So Kathryn is safe, right? Well, no. He says goodbye to her, too. The both reflect as they leave the show and assert that Jake is making a mistake and hope he makes the right decisions. In a dramatic ending to the date, Jake throws the neglected rose into the campfire.
Now there are seven women left. Before the rose ceremony, Jake flirts with Corrie a bit. He makes her a deal that he will pursue her, and in return she will open up to him. Next, it's Jessie's turn to talk. She warns him about Vienna and Jake listens with an open mind.
Finally, the rose ceremony begins. Jake is only supposed to say goodbye to one person. As he gets down to the last two roses, he asks for a minute. Ashleigh, Vienna, and Jessie are left. Jake leaves the set and asks to speak with Chris. He asks for his advice as he asserts that even though he has two roses to give out, he only wants to give out one. He wants two people to leave instead. Chris asks him if he is sure. Jake confirms that he knows for sure those two will not be his wife. Jake and Chris return to the ceremony. Chris takes away one rose. Shockingly, Jake gives the last rose to Vienna. Throughout this episode Jake claims he has seen "red flags" with Vienna, but that doesn't seem to influence his decision. Ali becomes secretly angry, speaking her frustrations to Tenley as Jake says goodbye to Jessie and Ashleigh. The usual toast occurs and the episode ends.
If there is one thing I can say about Jake, he sure knows what he wants, removing double the number of women than what were expected to leave. As the contestants dropped from nine to five, we knew Jake meant business. Be sure to tune in next week. If there's one thing I can almost guarantee that will happen, it's that the claws come out and the Vienna drama intensifies.
