BAFTA Nominations Announced Today
Avatar, An Education, and The Hurt Locker each received eight nominations for the British Academy Awards, which were announced today.
All three of those films are nominated for best film, along with Precious and Up In The Air. All three are also nominated for best director—James Cameron for Avatar, Lone Scherfig for An Education, Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker, as well as Neil Blomkamp for District 9 and Quentin Tarantino for Inglourious Basterds.
Other awards include outstanding British film, where An Education goes against Fish Tank, In The Loop, Moon, and Nowhere Boy.
The leading actor nominees are Jeff Bridges for his role in Crazy Heart, George Clooney for Up In The Air, Colin Firth for A Single Man, Jeremy Renner for The Hurt Locker, and Andy Serkis for Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll.
Leading actress nominations went to An Education’s Carey Mulligan, Saoirse Ronan from The Lovely Bones, Gabourey Sidibe for Precious, Meryl Streep for her role in Julie & Julia, and Audrey Tautou for Coco Before Chanel.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the BAFTA nominations are a good starting point to predicting the Oscar nominations, which will be announced on February 2.
