Ballin' - The Boondocks Recap

A Huge Step Up from Shinin'

Ballin' -- this week's episode of the Adult Swim show, "The Boondocks" has taken a huge step up from last week's episode "Shinin'."

"Shinin'" had some funny parts, as all episodes of "The Boondocks" do, but the plot wasn't Boondocks material. Huey's little brother Riley worked hard to get a fake iced-out chain from rapper Thugnificent to join his crew. Then he got knocked out by the neighborhood bully One Punch Butch and got his chain robbed. After fighting the Butch -- trying to get his chain back alone -- Riley calls on Thugnificent's crew to get the chain back. He gets it back after Butch noticed it was fake and hit one of the crew members (voiced by Busta Rhymes) in the leg.

"Ballin'" was definitely more of a Boondocks material episode. For the second week in a row, the plot was focused on Riley. Only this time instead of desiring shine from rappers, he desires it from the basketball court. He has plenty talent with tricks and showing off, but needs practice shooting the ball. That is where Tom steps in. Tom -- wanting to live the victory scene of "The Mighty Ducks" movie with his team -- is the coach of the Woodcrest Deers basketball team; the team that Riley joins after having Tom agree to his pick of the name and jersey design. Riley is then faced with learning how to shoot properly, making his team lose by foolishly showing off and a little girl who is only distracted on the court by rumors of her mother. In the end, Riley is beat at his own game by an autistic kid who scores a movie deal and big-figure contract. Of course, Riley and Tom are upset because their dreams were crushed, and it's the first time viewers can hear Tom curse up a storm. "Ballin'" was hilarious to watch.
